This week we catch up with Jennifer Frecklington who is The Café supervisor and a much-loved barista at Tweed Heads Bowls Club. Some of her favourite things are belly dancing, making beautiful pottery and looking after our members and guests.
THBC: When did you start at Tweed Heads Bowls Club?
I started 27 years ago in 1993!
THBC What is your role at Tweed Heads Bowls Club?
I am a supervisor at The Cafe.
THBC: What does your average day at work look like?
I make sure that The Cafe runs as smoothly as possible. With the help of my team, I stock up all the goodies that our in-house bakers bake fresh in the morning and I make all sorts of coffee.
But most of all my day involves welcoming and chatting with our members and guests and working with our precious Staff.
THBC: Where did you grow up?
I was born in Gunnedah and brought up in Inverell.
THBC: Why did you move to the Gold Coast?
I moved to the Gold Coast to be with my Mother.
THBC: What are your hobbies?
I love creating and working with different fabrics such as leatherwork, baking traditional Wedding cakes, Belly dancing, creating costumes with intricate beading and Pottery.
Belly dancing has given me confidence that I never had before and has allowed me to travel and learn overseas with Traditional people. I’ve made so many good friends through dance.
However, Pottery is where my soul sings, when I throw on the pottery wheel it’s like I get hypnotised, and there is nothing but the clay and me dancing together.
THBC: What is your favourite meal from Tweed Heads Bowls Club?
I have to say I do love the Heathy Choice Sandwiches.
THBC: What is your favourite beverage drink?
Dimple Scotch, Beer and of course Coffee/ Herb tea.
THBC: Where would you like to travel overseas?
I would love to go to Mongolia and to take my Sister as this is her dream.
Can you please tell us about our latest trip?
Last October I went to South Europe and North Africa and one of my favourite countries was Morocco.
I got to do some pottery over there and had a reunion with some travel friends, I collect Tribute rugs and purchased a beautiful one and a fantastic Moroccan antique pot. One of the favourite moments was when I danced in the Sahara Desert with live musicians. This is was just magical.
